1. Where it is?
Nagarjuna Sagar is located in between districts of Guntur and Nalgonda, Andhra Pradesh, India.
Nagarjuna Sagar Dam is the world's largest masonry dam with a height of 124 meters and length of about 3kms built on Krishna river. It has 26 gates and has water storage capacity of 9,371,845 acre-ft.
2. How to reach there?
a. By air : There are no flights to Nagarjuna Sagar. The nearest aerodrome is Hyderabad or Vijayawada.

b. By Train: There is no direct train to Nagarjuna Sagar. Before 1960's there is a train route later this is not operated.
The nearest railway station is Macherla.
c. By Bus: There are plenty of buses which are operated by APSRTC from Hyderabad and Vijayawada. Of course, there are lot of tourism buses operated from Hyderabad by private and government.
Nagarjuna Sagar is around 125 kms from Hyderabad.
3. When to go?
The ideal time to visit Nagarjuna Sagar is, in the months of Oct-Dec, during/after rainy season. When gates are open the water flow is very nice to see.
4. What to see in Nagarjuna Sagar?
I am going to explain you how to stay and how you can organize your tour plan.
Nagarjuna Sagar is combination of three places - Vijayapuri South, Pylon and Hill-Colony.
When you are coming from Hyderabad, first you will touch Hill-colony then Pylon and then Vijayapuri South.
Reach Nagarjuna Sagar before 6am and there are lot of inns to stay.

1. Fresh-up yourself and had break-fast before 7.30am.
Now, it's time to start your tour to Nagarjuna Sagar.
Go to launch station and book tickets to Nagarjuna Sagar Konda - a place where archaeological museum is situated.
The museum is located in an island. You have to go by launch which is arranged by AP Tourism. It is approximately 8kms surrounded by water.
Spend full day time in island and visit all the monuments in the island.
After returning from Nagarjuna Sagar Konda, evening roam around Vijayapuri South. It's a small village with lot of greenary, temples, and educational institutes. Get some fresh air in evening walk.
Check with the launch station manager for Srisailam trip availability, if available book your tickets.
2. Start to Anupu which is towards Macherla, a 8 Kms journey.
In between you can visit Sagar Matha, a well-known church.
Anupu is the place where all the monuments which are kept in museum are collected. Get in touch with local people - they will explain you better. Do not forget to get into local boat.
There are two parks downside of Nagarjuna Sagar DAM, in Vijayapuri south from where you can see a good view of dam.
3. Start to Srisailam on lauch it will be 1 day/ 2 day package from AP tourism. You can see wild animals during this journey.
4. There are two power generation station in Nagarjuna Sagar. If you know any body who is working in power station, then visit the power station in Vijayapuri South. If you don't know then you can go to other power station which is located in Pylon.
5. If you want to see crocodiles then go to Hill Colony, there is a separate place where crocodiles are put.
6. Ethipothala - water fall.
Ethipothala water fall is located nearly 12kms from Nagarjuna Sagar towards Macherla. Its good place to stay and enjoy the beautiful water fall. This is operated by AP Tourism now.
Do's and Don'ts:
a. Do not enter into water at any place of Krishna river. There are stones beneath the water and some places you can not estimate depth.
b. Crocodiles spots are there and areas are marked with boards.
